Sauvy Sauvy everywhere but oh what to drink?
May 2009

I don’t often say this but what the heck. This week we have just finished the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc blending session and I reckon we here at Thornbury have put together the best Sauvignon Blanc we have ever made!

If you are familiar with winemakers, you will notice that we often say this after harvest. But I must admit and I cross my heart saying this, the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, even though it’s straight out of the womb, oozes a youthful vibrancy I have not seen in a long time in such a young Sauvy. It’s like a teenager screaming for attention. Excuse the mixed metaphors here.

The final blend is mostly from the Awatere sub region thus expresses those delicate floral of citrus blossom and guava with a beautiful underlying minerality. It also has those characteristic bright pungent sweaty thiol* notes we all love in classic Marlborough Sauvignons. Not bad sweat but good sweat.

So if you are feeling adventurous and not believing my hype check out this new release coming to a wine shop near you this July.

*Thiols are those aromas you often see in SB of sweat, gooseberry etc. They are Methoxipyrozine flavour compounds found in grape skins.
