Sauvy Sauvy everywhere but oh what to drink?
29 May 2009
I don’t often say this but what the heck. This week we have just finished the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc blending session and I reckon we here at Thornbury have put together the best Sauvignon Blanc we have ever made! more >

'08 Sauvignon all ready for action
01 July 2008
Our 08 Sauvignon Blanc is one of the earliest releases for Thornbury. This year, we harvested it from vineyards in the Awatere, Waihopai and Wairau Valley vineyards. My team worked day and night to get this wine ready for bottling. Thanks guys for your efforts - you were bloody amazing, as it was just 8 weeks ago that this was still on the vines! So what should you expect from 08 Thornbury? Take a deep sniff and soak in the vibrant, fresh blend of ripe gooseberry and tropical fruits. When you take a big mouthful, it’s nicely balance with good intensity of flavour, which whooshes around your mouth. There is also an interesting minerally character, which comes through from the different vineyard areas. And then when you swallow, there is a crisp, mouth-filling finish. Yep - another mouth-watering wine..... Check it out in a shop near you and enjoy!

A taste of Europe
19 May 2008
My early days as a winemaker took to me to some of the world’s great winemaking regions, including the beautiful wineries of Europe. Last Saturday, I was lucky enough relive the European experience... more >

Summer sunshine in a glass
24 October 2007
For us here down under it is that time of the year when we break open a bottle of Pinot Gris and enjoy it over a summer lunch. This white variety has recently taken the world by storm and there seems to be no signs of it slowing down any time soon. more >

Winemaker whereabouts???
01 October 2007
Apologies for the many weeks of not posting a blog, there has been a legitimate reason. Since my last posting I have toured the shores of New Zealand from Auckland to Queenstown, promoting Thornbury Wines, revisited the Australian market with our distributor Fine Wine Partners for a nation wide road show and, as if that wasn't enough, I've just got back from attending an advanced wine assessment course held for winemakers who want to participate in judging wine shows. more >

Ramblings of a walkabout Winemaker
19 July 2007
There comes a time in the year when a winemaker hangs up their blunt stones in the cellar, slips on a pair of Hush Puppies (if that tickles your fancy) and heads out into the market to promote their wines. more >

Plunge the Planet - 2007 First Glass Wine Options
12 June 2007
Team Thornbury a.k.a. “Plunge the Planet” made our first ever appearance in Kingsley Wood's annual First Glass Wine Options held at Auckland’s Crown Plaza over the weekend. What a great event! I have been attending off and on over the years, but I must say it keeps on getting bigger and better each year. This year’s event attracted over 50 teams, 55 to be precise. more >

Having a life back
29 May 2007
One of the good things about the end of harvest as a winemaker is that you finally get your life back. My Californian Girl, I must admit, is very happy as our lives once again resemble normality. For me, that means doing a lot of forgotten chores around the house, but there are some more enjoyable things that normality entails too, like getting to go out and dine in this city of culinary delights. more >

Harvest part 2: The final countdown
02 May 2007
We're seven weeks into harvest now and doesn’t time fly when you are having fun?! Well, fun's not exactly what I'd describe it as right now, as I wander around in a semi-zombified state induced by a severe lack of sleep and one too many night shifts. more >

Harvest 2007 - part one
02 April 2007
We're now a month into vintage; my eyes are not quite hanging out of my head, but they're getting close. There definitely is a buzz about the winery. All the Gisborne Chardonnay is harvested now and I must admit it looks like the wines are probably the best for a decade at least... more >

Birth of a wine geek
22 March 2007
So this is my first blog. I was not quite sure what to write about so decided the best way to start this conversation with the universe was to open my soul to it. more >
